Morning thought:

Without equality, there can be no justice; injustice is simply applied inequality.

A true belief in equality is a necessary part of the global perspective, in which the lines we use to delineate superior and inferior, master and slave, ruler and ruled disappear except as artifacts of misguided thinking.

People lament inequality when they feel themselves oppressed. But the true test of a belief in equality is whether you are committed to it even when it disadvantages you.

Far too many people have come to power on slogans of equality only to jettison the idea when it has turned out to be inconvenient to their exercise of power. A lot of people who chafe under one yoke or other aren't really looking to build a fair, just, and equal society; they just want to turn the tables and put themselves on top where they can oppress in their turn.

But if everyone is competing to be the tyrant of the day, there are no real choices.

@DavidSalo If people who claimed they were acting against true equality bc of Christianity really studied what Jesus taught, we’d have a lot less trouble with inequality. Even Pres. Biden wrestled with formerly held beliefs he was taught as a Catholic and ultimately changed in favor of women’s reproductive rights.
