The Ontario government, headed up by Conservative Premier Doug Ford, passed right to work legislation by invoking Section 33 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms(AKA the notwithstanding clause)-making the strike illegal. CUPE's response? "Screw you, it's happening anyway!" Within the next week or so, it's REALLY going to hit the fan. 2/
SO...onward. Today, we find out that CUPE is going to hold a press conference tomorrow(Monday)outlining their next steps. AND per Rankandfile.ca, the Ontario Federation of Labour and CUPE are planning a mass protest at Queen's Park in Toronto this Saturday(11/12)followed by a general strike next Monday(11/14). Methinks Doug Ford REALLY stepped in it this time around. 4/4
@buffalocharging I just saw a snippit of this situation on TT.
We're an ATU fam stateside so, we support the strike if that's what's needed. 👊🏻
@CJsCorner Refresh my memory: What's TT? Or ATU for that matter?
@buffalocharging thanks for sharing. I support a factory based in Ontario, so this is good to know.
@BrainTrust oooh, trust me, the story's getting BETTER. Follow along and I'll explain....
Here's a nice background piece on this(never mind that the publication is located in the province of British Columbia)....
