@bfgreen AI may seem concerning now, but I'm quite certain it'll eventually be outmatched by SBI (Synthetic Biological Intelligence) - to the point that SBI makes AI obsolete except in narrow areas.

If you're wondering what I mean by SBI... think a brain-in-a-jar augmented by coprocessors and semiconductor memory - at a variety of scales up to and including giant engineered brains with more neurons than a hundred (or perhaps even thousands of) humans put together.

@bfgreen Why do I think SBI will end up being superior to conventional AI?

Simple: cost (especially startup cost) and efficiency (both in terms of training data and energy).

Performant conventional AI models require absolutely astronomical amounts of processing power (and thus both computing hardware and electrical power) for both initial training and usage/operation.

The amount of training data required is also far greater than that required to train biological intelligences.

@bfgreen While synthetic biological intelligence is far more likely to raise ethical concerns, it should ultimately end up being much cheaper to build/use due to the self-replicating nature of living cells, ready availability of living tissue, and energy efficiency of brain tissue.

Even if human neurons end up permanently off-limits (I sincerely doubt it), animal neurons - GM or not - could still be used. And there's a huge supply with little-to-no present demand, thanks to the meat industry.

@IrelandTorin dude! This is an epic response, thank you for taking the time - I love it. For the record I agree and I am in favor of AI (and SBI). My company recently developed an entirely new element using AL, ML, and Quantum Computing - in weeks vs. decades. This is going to develop and evolve very rapidly!
