😂

When I was bad at Japanese, everyone told me how "skilled" I was.

When I started getting good at it, everyone started telling me that I sounded "like a kindergartener".

Also, "You sound like you're from Osaka", which in Tokyo is totally NOT a compliment.

@Keysalagain

Being told in Tokyo that you speak Japanese like someone from Osaka is a bit like being told in Paris that you speak French like someone from Belgium.

Or QUEBEC.

@mcfate @Keysalagain isn't Osaka older though? More legit? I mean Quebec, pfft French is optional there. They could switch to Esperanto. I'm getting myself in trouble here huh

@b4cks4w @Keysalagain

Well, I guess if you go back to before the "Warring States Period", yeah, kinda.

Kyoto and Osaka are very old cities. Edo/Tokyo came along centuries later.

Doesn't keep the people in Tokyo from thinking everyone from Osaka is a hick.

@b4cks4w @Keysalagain

In Paris, they'll tell you the Québeçois French speakers sound like they wandered out of the 17th Century into the present, somehow.

They'll tell you that Belgians and people from the South of France talk like a bunch of rubes.
