@mcfate IMO Khelif's story is 100% inspirational. She wanted to box, paid for lessons by working at a scrap iron place (wonder why she's strong 🤔 ). Convinced her observant family it was cool. Got to the Olympics.
Nike or someone better be shoveling money her way. --mixed blessing but anyway.
@Beanc @mcfate The International Boxing Association CEO himself just up and decided she was male, or had elevated testosterone, or something -- totally unclear, no evidence or rationale presented. No tests done as far as anyone knows. The IBA BOARD called bullshit, The IOC called bullshit and for this and many other reasons removed the IBA's Olympic role in any further Olympics decisions.
Khelif is going pro. Good luck to those dudes if they meet her.
@b4cks4w @mcfate eh I don’t know that every statement there is fact but tbh it’s kit worth picking apart.
Ultimately, the motivations of IBA were sus and I don’t want to live in a world where we’re deciding whether we can “accept” someone as male or female based on a 20 point checklist.
"The Algerian boxer was born female, was registered female, lived her life as a female, has a female passport," the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said in a press conference on Friday
It’s stupid
@mcfate I try not to pick fights with people taller and stronger than me who are in the news for emphatically winning a fight in 45 seconds. Just a thing I learned.
