Question that’s been on my mind for a few weeks: do former presidents have a say in which agents make up their post presidency Secret Service detail?

@Hyporeality I think it's mixed. The service is arguably understaffed (See: "Zero Fail: The Rise and Fall of the Secret Service") so they lean on temps and contractors. Suggests to me rotating assignments but idk. Also tfg in particular politicized the service. His detail leader became the White House deputy chief of staff and then the USSS assistant director. Unusual.

@b4cks4w makes sense. I was wondering if Trump selected the agents because he always selects the “best people” 🙄 That may have had something to do with their not-so-great performance during the assassination attempt.
