US political wonks (who presumably depend to an extent on US Census data) may be twisted up about ethnicity because the US Census changed their methodology to be more inclusive of various possibilities. No more white/black/hispanic/other. As a result today, "Multiracial population has changed considerably since 2010. It was measured at 9 million people in 2010 and is now 33.8 million people in 2020, a 276% increase." 1/2

That's "as a result of improvements in the design of the race and ethnicity questions, processing and coding", not some massive influx, or "invasion".
