Okay… we’ve determined that the smoke detectors in my rental house need to be replaced. Here’s the weird thing… they installed a stainless steel exhaust fan that’s much more elegant than the one in this picture…. But installed at the same height. These fans are 36+” from the gas stove top. Even on the highest (LOUDEST!) level it doesn’t suck up the “smoke” from the pans on the stove. It is vented

Why do they install so high above the stove?

Okay, that’s understandable. Does your exhaust fan draw a the small smoke when you cook on the stove top? Or do you have to open the back door - even in winter - if you fry eggs (bacon’s impossible) smoke detectors go off for 20 minutes

@QueenOfEverything At the time I didn't think it worked very well, nope. Current abode has a fan that's flush with the upper cabinet face, so set back from the front edge of the stove. It's pretty low and works better for the back burners than the front. It doesn't give forehead gashes at least.

Maybe do bacon in the oven? Sheet pan, 350F. Might smoke less.

Yes, that makes sense. I tested the draw wit different size pots & pans with boiling water to watch the steam… and it went floating away from the kitchen. If I held a tissue in my hand, 6” away fri the fan, it would float yo and stick to the exhaust fan. I can live with another very attractive, non-functional thing in my house. That’s why we have microwaves to pick up the slack! 😎
