Question for librarians out there:

If a patron puts a hold on a new book by a popular author, and a person who works at the library wants to read the book right away, can they pull a copy and “cut in line” and make the patron wait longer for the book? Or is it a closed system where the copies are automatically assigned based on the order the hold was placed?

@CJLavoie depends upon on the software system but generally sure it's possible. Also have a chance when the book arrives before it's shelved.
