Today, for some completely random reason, my Linux box has deigned to switch on my keyboard lights.

I am *not* touching the button that turns the lights on and off. Made that mistake last time.

@kaehlys Hubs & I are on Linux machines too. Ubuntu-flavored, for better or worse. So I definitely sympathize.

@Zenstitcher Pop!_OS here, which is built on Ubuntu. I need to poke around a bit for some third-party apps so I can use my Logitech keyboards properly.

@kaehlys @Zenstitcher hey Pop!_OS here too and briefly had the backlights go awol. They also returned and now work fine. Little mystery.

@b4cks4w @kaehlys Weird, you guys. Was there an update recently or something?

I've got Ubuntu 20.04 on my machine. Hubs is one stable version behind. I don't love it, but the thought of changing distros right now makes me want to find a deep hole to hide in. 😬

@Zenstitcher @kaehlys I hear that. I have wandered through distros over the years like some kind of masochist.

Pop updates are pretty frequent, including for firmware if it's a system76 device (!)

@Zenstitcher There's *always* updates for Pop (in a good way!). I did recently do the firmware update as well because I have one of their Thelio boxes.

Today my keyboard backlights are working again. I have not touched the on/off button for the lights on the keyboard and I am not game to.

They're working for now, and I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

@b4cks4w

@kaehlys @Zenstitcher @b4cks4w Which keyboard are you using? Not run into *any* keyboard issues over the years with Pop - and I've had A LOT of assorted keyboards on it. Steelseries and Logitech tend to play nicest with Pop and the other Ubuntu based distros.

@slaymo Logitech G510s. When I first started on Pop the lights worked, then they stopped, then they'd work while the box was posting but go off once the OS loaded. Now they're working again.

Still not touching the button.

@Zenstitcher @b4cks4w

@kaehlys @Zenstitcher @b4cks4w Ahh damn, literally one of only two Logi models that needed the G15Daemon to work properly and that project is no longer maintained. Next time you upgrade, consider Steelseries - I've run both the Apex 3 and the Apex 5 and had no problems at all. Another benefit with Steelseries is that all lighting, LCD, and mode settings are firmware-based so no need for a software utility. You use the LCD menu for it all.

@slaymo I will definitely keep that in mind, thank you :D

Thankfully my G900 mouse holds the settings in internal memory so no issues there. Left-handed friendly gaming mice are hard to find.

//@Zenstitcher @b4cks4w

@kaehlys @b4cks4w Yep - the G900 is another rare bit of hardware that uses internal memory. Same goes for my Steelseries Rival Pro mouse, I'm a bit of Steelseries fanatic because of their preference for internal memory and firmware configuration.
