Using an algorithm to drive content that you're more likely to be interested in toward you is worthless *for that purpose*. This is because we already have our own built-in-filters, our minds: give us a wall of information, and we'll automatically gravitate toward the words, names, and issues that interest us.

What the algorithm actually does is substitute somebody else's second-guess of what we're likely to be interested in for our own choices. It really only works for targeting ads to users.
