Ya gotta love NextDoor. When people aren’t freaking out about coyotes, they’re freaking out about strange cars and pedestrians. I had to issue a warning that a friend visiting from the Midwest was so taken by the landscaping out here that she was taking photos on her walks each morning, so no one should call the police if they saw a woman taking pix of their yards. The amount of paranoia on ND is astounding.

@lifeinthePNW Exactly why I don't use Nextdoor. Amount of paranoia is quite high. It does make me wonder why people are so afraid of EVERYTHING. I wonder if it's a sign of the heightened sense of fear from all other things that spills over.

@arashsayadi It does feel like a general zeitgeist, doesn’t it. Fear of strangers, fear of the new and different, fear of pretty much everything.

@lifeinthePNW I agree it seems like a new zeitgeist, and it makes me wonder what's the root cause. I suspect once we know the root cause, we can actually address it and get people, all of us, me included, to think more rationally, while bringing down the temperature of the whole society.
