I remember when CP/M ruled, CPU's were rare, and one had to build the computer from chips. Magic times. Now it is all so mundane.

@mrfumblethumbs First thing I programmed was a set of routines for an imaging system written in C on a CP/M machine with 4K of RAM.

@ZonaPellucida My first programming experience was machine code (ie. hand-assembled assembly language) on an 8008.
Lots of fun, with a strong sense of wonder, but modern languages are *so* much better for getting real work done (in most, but not all, cases).
