Valentines is way over commercialized in the US.

@insomniacviolin I think it turned out to be more and more like valentines, but here some people also give things to folks they just care about in general to and not only love interests. Like, a best friend or similar. When I was a kid it was only a day to buy maybe roses or jelly hearts so it has for sure grown more commercial with the years !
