Today's dinner: Korean Jjimdak, or I call it Dakjjim (Braised Chicken)

Braised chicken wings. It tastes kinda like Greek Chicken Vesuvio but better. 😬

A friend of mine likes to go to this Greek restaurant in Chicago to get his Chicken Vesuvio and asks me why I don't get it too that it so good. I tell him my mom's Dakjjim is way better!! 😉

@YouInMyEye i am jealous. one of my favorite restaurants was a korean place, but they closed in december. no good korean food since. 😭 i could eat her manduguk every day.

@Loffreni

Yum... I love it too. Yes, it's not easy to find good Korean restaurants especially for Koreans bc we know the taste. (Often I wonder how non-Koreans cook and eat Korean recipes as, I assume, they don't know how the dishes are supposed to taste and when it's right time eat... ie such as Kimchi... it has its peak time when it's perfectly pickled and tastes best and when it's not quite done or past its prime...

@YouInMyEye im not korean, so im one of those people that wouldn't know, lol. the owner here was korean and she was always in the kitchen. i dont think i ever whet there when i didnt see her. her kimchi and pickled radishes were both amazing. ive been to other places but never enjoyed them as much as this place.

@YouInMyEye i could also live on jeyuk bokkeum and kimchi jjigae

@Loffreni

Oh yes. Definitely.

Btw I love BiBimBap. Have you tried it? It's a bunch of veggies/variety of vegetable salads, beef, fried eggs etc over white rice. You mix it all up with Gochujang pepper sauce. I've heard after visiting Korea, it became Michael Jackson's favorite food! And I believe it!

@YouInMyEye yes yes yes, this was one of my other go to dishes. I didn’t find this quite as flavorful, but the caramalized rice at the bottom…😋

@Loffreni

There are two kinds: one comes in a heated lava rock bowl that makes the rice caramelized. The other one I was talking about comes generally in a large metal bowl and the rice doesn't get caramelized... but very similar.

@YouInMyEye I would be very sad without the caramelized rice

@YouInMyEye @Loffreni my wife and I always annoy the servers at the Korean restaurants around us because we prefer not stir in the gochujang

@Loffreni we use it, we just prefer to taste the various ingredients separately, at least at first
