is it just me or does orange julius not taste like it used to?

when i was a kid, it was the biggest of treats when we were at the mall to get back to school shoes and supplies, if my mom would buy us 1 pineapple julius to share btw the 4 of us kids. it was the best!

i don't go to the mall often as an adult but i did last yr for some biz reason. and i saw the orange julius sign so bought myself a pineapple julius. it was very disappointing. πŸ™„

@singlemaltgirl The original Orange Julius is no more. Dairy Queen licensed the name but today's receipe is not exactly the same.

Having grown up in SoCal, home of Orange Julius, I tell the local DQ about the "real" Orange Julius and how there were stores all over SoCal. They know it's not the same, but it's what they're sent. No freshly squeezed oranges.

@WordsmithFL ah, thank you. i mean, this was almost 4 decades ago and in πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦. but trying it more recently, i just didn't taste the same so i wondered if my taste buds had just changed. appreciate the insight.

@singlemaltgirl @WordsmithFL That said, your tasting ability definitely does change over time. And also, the change in the flavors of food (not ability-based) are not all bad. Brussels sprouts these days have been engineered to taste less bitter, which is good.

When I went home to SoCal in 2014, I went to the L.A. County Fair for the first time in many years, specifically to have an Orange Julius. I found the stand had been torn down. Another part of childhood gone.

The DQ people told me they know it's not the same, for example they no longer use real fresh oranges.
