Stupid Microsoft Word tricks ...

I'm editing my history book's final draft. Having not done one of these in decades, I followed obsolete standards, e.g. Ibid in italics. CMOS says no italics.

I've been going one-by-one to remove the italics, then remembered that Word's Replace command lets you search by font too!

This is what it looks like (in Word 2010).

I know there are lots of other tricks I'll have to resurrect, e.g. generating an index, down the road.

@WordsmithFL Use the built-in headings as you go to create an automatic index. (Check the Navigation box under the View Tab to see this.) You can edit the formatting of each heading level manually but don't do that while still writing the report. Format afterwards or simply choose a theme that you're happy with.

@danielbsmith Thank you. We're not quite at that point yet. The editor wanted me to reduce the word count by 10%-15%, which I'm doing now, then it goes out for external review. Once we have the final draft locked down, I'll index what's left. 😊
