From #NYTimes: #Tesla profits drop sharply in Q2 2024 due to a drop in car sales.

From #CNN:
"Telsa profit in the second quarter plunged more than 40% from a year ago, as the electric vehicle company has faced both more EV competition from established automakers and a slowing of overall EV sales growth."

@WordsmithFL it’s a mark of shame in California now, an embarrassment for the owners.
@WordsmithFL The thought of a crazed right-wing megalomaniac being able to remotely shut down my car’s operating system if I posted something critical of him on social media ruled out a Tesla for me. I got this amazing #EV from Volvo whose year over year sales are increasing significantly. #EVsRock
@WordsmithFL He has done everything he can to antagonise his customer base. Perhaps he thought he could take them for granted, and in the act of antagonising them win over a new customer base?
Yet like in rather a lot of other examples in his recent history, it didn't turn out how he thought it would.
It seems like his arrogance is driving, and it's an impressively bad navigator.
@sumpnlikefaith Yep, his arrogance is his undoing. Just as his blind belief in robotaxis will undo #Tesla, I fear that #Starship will do the same to #SpaceX. He's chasing his Mars fantasy instead of a reliable cislunar transportation system.
@WordsmithFL The more I read about his Mars ambitions, the more implausible it sounds, and the more reckless he sounds for pursuing them so unilaterally.
I'm trying to choose my words carefully.
@sumpnlikefaith Oh, it's impossible with today's technology, and with his technology. The cost of doing something like that is in the trillions. Despite what he thinks, you can't just live off the land. He wants to put everything in one #Starship that will magically land on the Mars surface. Pop out all the supplies and voila, all is good.
Not to mention there's no compelling reason to do it other than his ego.
live off the land?
the man is mad. i'd like to see him on Survivor or one of those programs where they get a taste of what that's like.
what a total fantasy. world class moron.
@WordsmithFL
Plus the fact that Muskrat has pissed off most of the EV user base...
You’d think Tesla’s board would have been more saavy about the major negative effects musk’s radical crazy personal choices would have on the sales & stock prices
@QueenOfEverything The #Tesla shareholders just handed Elon a $40 billion bonus over ten years. They've drunk the Kool-Aid.
https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/17/business/elon-musk-next-pay-package-tesla/index.html
i think he threatened them with destroying the company if they didn't. they're all shareholders who'd lose a lot, and they know he could and would do it, it's his style.
@holon42 I would have sold my shares a long time ago.
for sure. it's been a long time coming and visibly so🫨
He's setting the world record for how many multi-billion dollar assets he can destroy in the least amount of time.
@WordsmithFL How could he have ever guessed that people interested in saving the world from climate Armageddon for future generations are not inclined to fascist ideology? Or that "drill baby drill" coal rolling climate deniers are skeptical of electric vehicles? To predict all that he'd have to have been almost a normal human.😉
@walterbays One has to wonder why he sucks up to #Trump, who has said he's going to do away with EV credits and replace them with ICE credits.
@WordsmithFL Well, Trump promises in Project 2025 to raise taxes on middle class families to give millions to billionaires. His political "beliefs" may go no deeper than that.
However it seems like his mind snapped when his child came out as trans and said she wanted nothing more to do with him ever.
From #NYTimes:
#Tesla's slump in sales appears to be at least partly the result of the right-wing politics of Mr. Musk. Tesla’s early customers and fans included many environmentalists and left-leaning consumers, many of them residents of California. Registrations of new Teslas in the state fell 24 percent in the second quarter, according to data published last week by the California New Car Dealers Association.
