A lightning strike yesterday afternoon started a wildfire in the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. The fire is burning west of the runway.

@LnzyHou It's a very common occurrence. During the winter and spring, MINWR does prescribed burns all the time for this very reason. The foliage here is very oily; it will burn even when wet.

This is just nature doing what it does.
