21 years ago this morning at 9 AM EST, Space Shuttle orbiter Columbia and its crew failed to arrive at the Shuttle Landing Facility.

This is WESH-TV Channel 2 Orlando's live coverage of the landing. I recently found the video in two sections with the frame ratio distorted. I managed to put them together and correct the distortion.

I've heard stories about what happened at the SLF that morning. Now we can see this moment in history.

I used to do tours in the Launch Control Center. The lobby has plaques for every mission launched from there. Each plaque has the launch and landing date.

Only two Shuttle plaques are missing the landing date -- STS-51L Challenger and STS-107 Columbia.

This is the Columbia plaque, missing its landing tag.

On February 1, 2003, I started recording national news coverage of Columbia's loss at about 10:45 AM EST / 7:45 AM PST, if you want to watch in real time.

@WordsmithFL husband was supposed to attend a big vendor meeting at KSC that week. Son and I had made plans to fly out and meet him. We still traveled, went to KSC--one of the saddest trips I've made there.

@joycereynoldsward I can't imagine what it would be like around here -- and I never want to find out.
