@KarenSohne Alas, it's manually operated. The drawbridge operator doesn't put the arms down until cars have stopped in both lanes. After that, he raises the bridge.
@KarenSohne When we moved here in 2009, my main hesitation was that there were only two ways on/off north Merritt Island, and they're both across drawbridges.
The Drawbridge of Peril in the image below is being replaced by a big tall bridge. The Drawbridge of Fate is too close to the SR-528 highway to build a replacement.
The Drawbridge of Doom is near Port Canaveral and the Space Force Station.

@KarenSohne Manatee Cove is up the street. You can see plenty of manatees soaking in the lagoon ... if you don't mind feeding the local mosquito population ...
