The ACLU asked a federal court today to block Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose (R) from requiring naturalized citizens to show citizenship papers when voting at the polls. The advocacy group says that LaRose's action violates a 2006 court order.

“Requiring naturalized citizens to bring additional documentation to verify their eligibility to vote is not only burdensome and discriminatory, it’s unlawful,” Freda Levenson, legal director of the ACLU of Ohio
