What’s more m mysterious to me is that almost every other popular app has a very similar vertical video mode built-in but they didn’t take off like TikTok, whyyyyyyy

They had them before TikTok existed.
They should have had an earlier grip on the market.
I think it had to do with starting limitations.
A TikTok vid can be embedded anywhere, while other platforms created all sorts of obstacles for users to share them across platforms in an attempt to compel them to stay inside THEIR platform
