I was not surprised that the movie "Megalopolis" is a flop at the box office. I get the impression that certain directors no longer have the impact that they did years ago---directors like Spielberg and Martin Scorsese. Is the public tired or no longer wanting to see these movies because of the content or not interested at all? vulture.com/article/megalopoli

Box office receipts vs Oscar nomination/win are somewhat analogous to what makes a movie great--depending on who you ask. Box office receipts is more reflective as to what public opinion is about a "good" movie and everyone wants to see. Oscar nomination/win is more reflective of a small cadre of opinions and leans more towards the artistic side. I sometimes scratch my head wondering why certain movies are nominated let alone win an Oscar.
