NASA is touting an advancement that could make life in space more sustainable, even if it might sound kind of gross. The space agency has announced that astronauts on the International Space Station have been able to -for the first time- “recover” 98% of the water that crews bring along on their journey. #reclamation #reuse #NASA #wastewater #water https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/nasa-touts-breakthrough-in-recycling-astronaut-pee-and-sweat/ar-AA1dbC5n
@IrelandTorin Your memory serves you right. It is called NEWater https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NEWater
@Victor The fuck have they been doing up til now?
Sometimes, I'm so shocked to find out it _isn't_ really the future yet.
@Victor Nothing "gross" about it.
@WordsmithFL if you think about it, there is no such thing as new water. For all you know, you may be drinking water that dinosaurs pissed and pooped in...
@Victor I seem to recall something about Singapore and "water recycling". Pretty sure they actually have a bottled water brand of sorts that is literally reclaimed and processed wastewater (might just be reclaimed/processed grey water? Hard to say, I read about it a long time ago).
I think it was called something like smart water.
Suffice to say it seems like water recovery technology may be on the upswing - perhaps one day it might even be mainstream / widespread?
