Andrew Jackson Young

Pastor, civil rights leader, former Mayor of Atlanta, Georgia, Congressman from Georgia, and the first African American United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Rev. Andrew Young was born on March 12, 1932 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Young served as United States Ambassador to the United Nations under the Jimmy Carter Presidential administration. He was a close ally and Chief Lieutenant of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and served as the Executive Director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and President of the National Council of Churches USA.
