I am seriously considering dipping deeply into my savings and buying a condo up on Mt. Hood. I'm not certain how many more "Portland winters" I can endure. ("Portland winter" = nine months of gloomy skies, temps in the 40s, and rain) I need to be able to look out my window and see snow, dammit!

@BenA We've talked a few times about moving into the foothills or futher in the Cascades as well. Biggest sticking point for now is our current school district is pretty good, and a concern about how far is good without overly raising the wildfire risk during the summer.

I've been looking in the vicinity of Welches or Government Camp. Up there but still close enough to travel back and forth to PDX in a reasonable amount of time. I had a line on a really good condo, but the owner yanked it from the market just as I discovered its existence. Now checking the listings daily to jump at the next opportunity.
