My daughter had asked me to line edit her 368-page novel and said she'd pay me for the work. We've done this before successfully on little pieces.
But: I just did some fast calculations. For a project of this size we're talking $1400 and that is the friends and family rate. My wife will punch me on the snoot if I charge my own flesh and blood that much money.
Storm clouds are on the horizon. How professional does my daughter want to be? Because if she doesn't use me she's gonna pay a lot more.
@Synical Maybe? She's outside and when I poked my head out to tell her my discovery, she was like "oh boy." She knows editing has value so it's not that, it's the kid's life situation that she's aware of that is bringing the growls. Requires more discussion, for sure.
