And now the IT guy is lecturing me about how leaving my clock set to EST will make some programs not work. That is not the problem, my guy, and I need it that way because my deadlines are EST.

Follow

@shadow_queene If they seriously told you that, look them square in the eye and ask why they aren't operating off of UTC, with time zone offsets... like most competent organizations.
Oh, and if you're on Windows 10/11 - you can add additional clocks. They'll show up when you hover over the taskbar clock. 🤓

@Synical That's good to know! I have a wall clock above my desk set to my actual time zone and keep the computer set to EST, but still useful to know that's an option

@shadow_queene @Synical

I did IT/Help Desk for about 5 years, and the only times we'd see problems caused by the actual clock settings was when it was the clock *on a server* that was fking up software on other workstations that communicated with that server.

Appointments would be all wonky and the software would glitch out if the server thought it was living in the future.

But that was really the only thing a clock could do to break something, at least in my experience.

@Ubiety @Synical I'm getting a very strong impression that this guy is clueless.
