We need a law that says both elected and appointed members of government may not accept gifts of any kind, no plane flights, no accommodations, no money, no favors, no dinners, nothing,

Also full financial discloser and a strict code of ethics.

@Stonekettle Yeah, but then they'd have to fall back on their insider trading to get rich...

@sfleetucker @Stonekettle The only area where there seems to be bipartisan agreement is in opposition to restrictions on lawmakers trading individual stocks.
I wonder why? /s

@Stonekettle I always thought there was such a law. As a low level NASA contractor at MITRE I was told I could not so much as allow a vendor to pick up a fast food lunch tab. NASA employees wouldn't accept a birthday card.

@Stonekettle How can there not already be such a law!?!?

When I worked for a defense contractor I remember REALLY strict rules limiting gifts, who payed for meals and how much, etc. At the lowest levels of grunts (me and the government people I worked with) they enforce ridiculously restrictive rules.

I am baffled why the same rules aren't applied at all levels.

@Stonekettle On that I quite agree. No acceptance of lobbying money either would be wonderful.

@Stonekettle And one that says if they get caught breaking the law not only will they lose their seat but they will no longer be eligible for all those huge benefits they get.

@Stonekettle absolutely. But how are we to make it happen? The criminals are running the jail.

@Stonekettle

Much of that's already in place and needs stricter and more even enforcement.

We also need to get rid of Super PACs.
