@Siren_six

FDR prosecuted World War 2 from a wheelchair. Amazing that these sad trolls don't remember that.

@Siren_six

Ageism and ableism are BACK, and they're COOL and FUN, kids!

"What's WRONG with you!? You come dancin' up to people in wheelchairs, 'RACE ya, Ironsides!'!?" — Bill Hicks

😡

@Siren_six I mean sure, but I suspect they're probably just using the mobility aid as a metaphor for the extremely advanced age of both the leading presidential candidates.

It seems reasonable to me to bemoan gerontocracy & campaign for a younger leader; while age does grant a measure of life experience, it also often leads to cognitive rigidity and decline.

A younger, brighter leader (ideally a bona fide genius & polymath) would almost certainly be a better pick from a capability standpoint.

@Siren_six Given the US's population, it seems feasible to pick EXTREMELY bright candidates.

Even more so than me - I mean, I'm ("only") between the 99.9th and 99.99th percentiles (in IQ)... which equates to between 1/1000 and 1/10000 occurrence, which means most people haven't met/won't meet someone brighter than me.

The US has 300,000,000 people, so you could potentially go as high as the 99.999th percentile, or an IQ of around 164 (there should be 3000 people in the US at/above that level).

@IrelandTorin I get that, but her take is specifically from a disability perspective. There is a stereotype that only older people use walkers but that isn’t true, young people use them too. I would also argue one of the most influential American presidents of the 20th century governed the country during the Second World War from a wheelchair. It’s sucks that mobility devices are often shown in a bad light like this walker is in this example. A walker like a wheelchair is just a tool.
