Opioids Show more
True story.
I had a newborn and ended up in a chair one day and could barely take care of my babies due to pain.
I went to a "Pain Specialist."
She put me on Vicodin.
For a YEAR.
I DEMANDED to see a surgeon.
He said, "When that MRI was taken your disc was already gone."
I said, What.
What.
Called the doctor.

@Shelter Mmh. I can relate. When I blew two discs, the doctors wanted to avoid surgery and treat conservatively (PT, injections, etc.) so for the better part of a year I was on max doses of hydrocodone/acetaminophen and a muscle relaxant. While this combo was great at knocking me out, I hated how it made me feel.
When they finally did get me fixed surgically -- which has worked without revision for over 20 years -- withdrawal from the opioid was cold turkey, swift, and highly welcome.

@Shelter To this day I avoid opioids whenever possible. I don't begrudge people who need them -- I know a few people whose chronic, soul-crushing pain from cancer, neurodegenerative disease, and such can only be managed by them -- but I prefer much less aggressive pills to manage pain for myself.

I said "You will step me down from this now."
It was awful.
Fever. Chills.
Shaking.
I had an infant and a toddler and these people were like eh Vicodin.
I beat that shit in 3 weeks.
I can beat smoking in a month.
