We got our first cat together as a couple a few months after we began dating. It was the first real thing we had together after admitting we loved each other.

That was 21 years ago.

Since then, that cat has moved with us from place to place across half the country, as we brought others into our home, passed milestones, and through loss. She has been with us throughout our marriage, but earlier, I had to make the call to help her pass in peace.
