: The Supremes did what I figured they'd do, and I'm a little surprised there were no dissents. For starters, I'm surprised the hardcore states rights crowd didn't have a dissent or two, and I'm surprised the justices on the left didn't have one or two because of the same reason, though from a different approach.
I knew it'd be a hot-button decision, of course, but I figured it'd go down some easier with at least some kind of dissent.
@thedisasterautist I think the issue that bothers me the most has nothing to do with Trump in CO on the ballot.
My biggest peeve with the Supreme Court is how they have been ruling on what should fall under State Laws and what Should be under Federal laws.
I get that it opens issues if only one or two states have rulings that keep Trump off the ballot and could cause chaos with Elections and the electoral votes to just begin with.
So why did they break up Roe vs. Wade to the States?
@thedisasterautist We now have State Laws that are trying to control what goes on beyond the State Lines if they consider the person to be a resident.
We don’t live in a country that still keeps almost all life activities within the state. We don’t even pay long distance phone calls the past 20 years. Amazon gets about as many orders as someone shopping locally if not more. Technology and transportation has erased State lines in most eyes.
So every decision is a roll of the dice now.
@thedisasterautist I honestly feel like the more Red the state seems to be, the worse the State Government is. They tend to have a lower median family income, less social programs outside of a church community, low school funding and limited job opportunities. Most residents are just stuck and have become very angry with everything they feel they have no chance with or lost opportunities to someone else and no other options.
@SatuUnelmia: They were fairly isolated and always have been, those states. Some were isolated due to geography, i.e., "flyover country", and some were isolated due to Reconstruction. After the two parties flipped poles, they went redder and redder, and the GOP blamed the Dems and "moderates" for every failure of their, plus played the race and other cards perfectly along with Ye Olde Religion.
The writing's been on the walls for decades, but folks who read it didn't care.
@SatuUnelmia: The classic end run around state and federal legislation and even deliberation is to get bench law made. First sue in state court and then in appellate court, and run it to the Supremes. Highly fashionable.
