Has anyone tried INSPIRE that new implant for sleep apnea? It completely eliminates using a CPAP machine. It advertises that it's covered by Medicare and most health plans.

I'm a side sleeper... so I hated having to sleep on my back all the time with the annoying machine connected.

Just wondered if anyone here has looked into it. 🌻

@QueenOfEverything To be covered you have to prove CPAP doesn't work for you. My guess is a sleep doctor would need to agree?

You can use CPAP as a side sleeper though. Just get a pillow with a cutout for mask. And it helps to elevate the hose with a stand and use a mask connecting on top of your head.

Inspire also complicates getting MRI in the future.

My doctor implied I couldn’t qualify for coverage given my "numbers look good" with CPAP. Would need to cover it out of pocket.

I couldn't come up with a workable way to sleep on my side with CPAP- that's why I stopped using it. There wasn't a mention of issues with getting an MRI in the Inspire materials.

Part of the marketing and promotion of devices like this is to have local specialists for interested patients to call & make an appt bc they are already pro-Inspire. If people go to their current ENT doctors- they might not be fans of Inspire.
