There was a good segment on the history of anti-vax on CBS Sunday Morning. Brief, but they traced it all the way to reluctance (understandable) to take the original smallpox inoculation. (It involved cutting you and smearing ground up scabs, etc. In wound. And everybody got sick, ans some even died.) But it was still better than your odds if you actually got smallpox.
Ben Franklin regretted not getting it for his grandson in fear of it. But he got smallpox and died.
Of course, the story traced general trend toward acceptance until the political football around Covid vaccine.
