Anyone know what these blued-out spots are that continue west from the Hawai'ian islands?
@maybeimaleo Hawaii is a hot spot island chain, meaning that lava just pushes through the crust and spills out. The spot maintains location while the continental plate moves.
So those are, if memory serves, former or unrealized islands from that effect over the last few million years.
