@Marlowe2
I would say this malignant "transformation" was already in full swing sometime between Nixon and Reagan, but was not out in the open then. The Party endorsed Reagan, but he didn't openly address this issue. Now it's perfectly fine to admit this.

@OldCountryDoctor @Marlowe2 Henry Ford (paraphrasing) knew that he had to pay his employees enough to buy cars and go adventuring. The middle class drives the economy. Give the rich more money they horde it, give it to someone who's house needs repair or who needs a new car.

@MidnightRider @OldCountryDoctor @Marlowe2 wealth isn't hoarded, it's reinvested where it is must likely to grow-creating more wealth.

Wealth handed to someone who needs a new car is a static one off transaction that kills wealth.

@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN @OldCountryDoctor @Marlowe2 Car needs, insurance, fuels, maintenance, tires, state registration fees. parking fees, ticketing fees from states. I do agree with you that wealth is reinvested by the rich but not in the way the Republicans claim where high paying jobs are the mission of their reinvestment. My brother has told me my entire life we have to "kiss up to the super rich" to receive our crumbs, I hate that GOP axiom.

@OldCountryDoctor @Marlowe2 --I think this issue goes all the way back to Nixon's Southern Strategy in 1968 and possibly even Goldwater in 1964. Reagan & Bush 43 contributed to in a big way to the modern GOP. Bush 41's biggest legacy is Clarence Thomas. Ultimately this was a 50+ year journey for the GOP.

@OldCountryDoctor @Marlowe2 --Thank you for the kind words. I thought your POV was on target. I only connected the thread to Goldwater, who Reagan seemed to revere. Interesting story about Goldwater, is that he was the one (along with a few other GOP Senators) who told Nixon to resign. Compared to most of the current GOP, that makes Goldwater a statesman.

@Rupiefied2020 @OldCountryDoctor @Marlowe2 --I assume you're speaking of Adam Kinzinger & Liz Cheney. That said, it's a chore to find anyone in the GOP these days with the courage to put country over party. Their only governing strategy seems to be focused on the ends justifying the means.

@s3friedman @OldCountryDoctor @Marlowe2 yep or even balls if you want to be crude no balls to tell trump you're not my daddy
