If you think the #fossilfuel industries will come to their senses and stop pumping CO2 and CH4 into the atmosphere before it's too late - let me assure you that you're very wrong.
A key oil and gas industry group has devised a plan to dismantle Biden-era climate regulations, including on methane emissions, according to an investigation published Friday in The Washington Post.
@NorthernInvader On the exploration side, infecting formations could be done by recruiting workers at companies that manufacture drilling fluid or its ingredients, and getting them to introduce the engineered bacteria to the drilling fluid.
Then, in the process of drilling for the oil/gas, they'll end up infecting the formations with the bacteria... which will quickly render them unextractable.
Infecting currently-exploited formations might be a bit more difficult.
@NorthernInvader I see a solution to this.
But it involves some complex bioengineering.
See, methane and other hydrocarbons can be an energy source if used in certain anaerobic processes... including polymerization, which is exothermic.
Hypothetically, there's no reason an anaerobic bacterium couldn't be engineered to get its energy by polymerizing hydrocarbons... turning them into an unextractable, unusable tough plastic-like solid.
Then it's just a matter of infecting formations with it...
