@NorthernInvader I would not have thought that you could pull off closed-loop geo that deep... I'd love to know how they tie up their deep-Earth manifold.

@wyrmeboi Just a wild stab in the dark but maybe they are using some kind sealant throughout the horizontal borehole that would withstand high pressure and prevent leakage, and only piping the verticals. Perhaps that would not require any kind of manifold deep down - it's a completely closed system. @wyrmeboi I don't know if they discuss his on their site anymore but being Alberta based they are, or at least were, interested in using abandoned oil and gas wells that are several kilometers apart - just need to do the horizontal drilling.
Current provincial government is against any green energy - very O&G promoters - very stupid people. The potential there with abandoned wells that with this, or similar, technology they could power all of North America and still have power to spare.
@NorthernInvader I have lived in both Edmonton and Calgary, though not in many years. It will take a generation to wean Alberta off of its oil addiction, no doubt. But I am surprised to hear that they do not favor Eavor technology. This brings up my favorite talking point for the #ClimateChange crowd: The O&G guys have to be our friends, not our enemies. All the #GreenEnergy and heat we will ever need is in the ground beneath our feet: they are the ones who know how to get at it. #Geothermal
@wyrmeboi I think it's pretty clear they have bought the government they want. They should be on side but they are anything but.
@NorthernInvader You sent me down the borehole, so to speak. I get it now. They use magnetic tracking to connect boreholes at depth, and then chemically turn the bores into impermeable tubes. They don't use tubing, like surface based residential geo-exchange systems. The bore-holes become the tubes. Pretty nifty!
