Volunteer tasks this morning left a bad taste in my mouth (not everyone is an honest broker, alas), but now it's time to shake it off with a run, and try to get a few pieces finished today. I had All The Things started yesterday, but I definitely need to settle and focus on one task at a time now.
Bird by bird, as Anne Lamott says. 👍🏻
@MLClark It's all about the Murica ^_^
Surprised you'd find that in Columbia. The country's reputation in South America is.. let us say... sub optimal.
That's a misconception I had when I moved here. It's a very Western way of thinking, to assume that just because our countries shit on others most folks spend their time cursing us. It's just one more way in which we try to keep the conversation centred on us - but I quickly learned that most Colombians are only passingly familiar with the US, & often because they have a cousin in Miami etc, or have vague notions of US people being richer. Otherwise, it's all distant chatter!
(I know, imagine a world where certain US politicians' names aren't blasted everywhere, at the fore of everyone's thoughts. 😅 Bliss!)
@MLClark Fair enough. I have a degree in history and it causes me to take a somewhat dim view on the actions of this country in the past.
Me too, which is why I wrongly assumed when I first arrived that folks here would have stronger opinions and be more interested in Western nonsense.
I was so caught up in my Western social contract that I genuinely needed to unlearn the importance we place on our discourses, and make space for worlds where people have plenty of other local interests and conversations that matter more. (Away mission of one!)
But that's a huge part of why I left: to learn, and to *unlearn*. 🙂
@NiveusLepus
🤣🤣🤣 I genuinely "lol"ed.
