I love birds. I grew up with a parakeet and had a cockatiel when I was young.

Nowadays the only domesticated birds I have are chickens. Mine are quite tame and enjoy a good scratch when I pick them up.

I feed wild birds and garden to attract them. I love watching them.

House birds can be fun, but the noise can be intense, especially with the bigger exotics.

I really enjoy birds as well but the noise of the big ones really gets to me. My favorite pet birds are parkeets (budgies), they have sweet little singing voices and they can learn to talk just like other parrots. They're very social and intelligent but they will throw birdseed all over the place! 😀

@mushrj

Yes, they are messy!

It’s also challenging to keep birds and cats in the same household, although it can be done (I managed, although I had a few close calls).

@Museek @DachshundSaidSo

@Myrth I had two lovebirds, a cat and a Rottweiler in the house as a kid. Birds ruled the roost. 🤣@DachshundSaidSo @Museek @mushrj

@yogapaddlerun

Our cat knocked over the parakeet cage one time, and tried to kill the parakeet when they were in the same room together. I had to put the cat in another room and close the door to have the parakeet out of her cage safely. That cat was a very accomplished huntress. I am sure a cat with a lower prey drive might co-exist more peaceably with a bird.

@mushrj @Museek @DachshundSaidSo

@Myrth Yikes! This cat didn’t go after birds, but would push out the screens to kill baby bunnies. Pretty sure Arthur would kill a bird if there was one in the house though. @DachshundSaidSo @Museek @mushrj

@yogapaddlerun @Myrth @Museek @mushrj I had a 8 pound calico who would catch 20 pound wild rabbits and leave them disembodied on the back porch. She was a terror.

@mushrj @Myrth @Museek My friend has a cockatoo named Olly. She left him with a friend for two weeks while she was out of the state.
Olly learned how to scream "eff you mother effer" followed by whistling Bridge Over the River Kwai in entirety.
