Does anyone know anything about water wells?
My house is semi off--grid. I'm on well and septic and although I'm connected to the electrical grid, I do have a propane powered generator that kicks in during outtages.
I'd like to buy a hand pump for my well, in case I lose power and my propane runs out. But apparently I need to know how deep my well is before I can know what pump to buy. Anyone have a clue how to figure out how deep a well is?
The other important measurement is how deep the actual water is. So once I knew how far down the water is, I used the weighted string again and played it out until it hit bottom. I put another knot at the top of the well, hauled the weight out, and measured the string.
This gave me the depth of the well and a way to measure the water in the well (at that place the well did not produce as much water as I would have liked, so water measurements helped me track available water.
