OMG. Powdered milk. Powdered SKIM milk. My Dad tried to make us drink it. I refused. It was vile. He tried to force the issue. I was persistently stubborn - it did not taste or smell fit for human consumption. I hadn’t thought about that in years. What a memory. Best repressed! 😱

Yeah, dad tried that too, to stretch our real milk. It was disgusting.
I remember being offered oatmeal drenched in such “milk”. It was nasty.
I was a little thing and was more ready to simply go on a hunger strike than to eat faux foods. My big brother was a bottomless pit teenager and likely the reason for the milk frugality.
@Myrth @yogapaddlerun @CherNohio @rstwohee Don't forget that Govment butter! 😂
@CorreroM Butter, cheese, anything that one could get free/cheap. We lived close to a Pepperidge Farm bakery. My mom would load up on days-old bread and then put into the freezer. Man, bread sure can get tough when it's been frozen for more than a week or two. @CherNohio @yogapaddlerun @Myrth
@Myrth With 6 kids in the family who basically inhaled all the milk, my mom would mix reconstituted powdered milk w/ regular milk. A sort of 50/50 mix that looked blueish when poured into a bowl of cereal. 🤢 My oldest brother would sneak down at night when there was non-mixed milk in the fridge and drink it from the carton. I was never that brave to defy mom 😂 @yogapaddlerun @CorreroM @CherNohio
