So my parents have their house all Alexa-fied. And I don’t know how to turn on any freaking lights normally to go write a tooth fairy message for the niece who lost her dang tooth. She believes in her own personal tooth fairy and said tooth fairy always writes her back.
@MotherDucker I hate hate *hate* the whole "smart speaker" thing.
The primary purpose of smart speakers is NOT to serve you... it is to gather data on everything that occurs & all conversations within your own home (so the company can sell that data to other companies/governments or abuse it internally), while offering *just enough* utility to entice you to purchase/keep the device.
That's why nearly all "smart" devices are Internet-dependent even if their nominal functions are doable offline.
There should still be light switches. If the light switch isn't a wifi one, turn it off then on & it should stay on. You'll have to turn it off, which may affect their setup, so just let them know which ones were turned on & off. That way, they can turn them back on before asking Alexa to do it.
@MotherDucker use the flashlight on your phone? I know it's dumb but it works
