Here's a good cooking hack. When using a cutting board, put a damp towel underneath. Keeps the board from sliding away from you.

In fonts and lettering, Upper case and Lower case, comes from old printing, where each letter had to be hand set. And the storage boxes each letter was stored in came in two banks above the typesetters work bench.
