Just saw a NBC news but on a suicide prevention non profit taking veterans devices and sifting through the data for sucide signs to build some kind of suicide detector?!
How is that ethical? not one privacy consideration?! The dead can’t consent to their data release. The families “donate” their phones and laptops.

@Redcarpet I think we all could really use an open (and probably painful) discussion about how we all look at suicides, but I find my own opinions are wildly in the minority, and are prone to upsetting people. Maybe trying from the perspective of privacy is a smart start?

@MookyTroubadour uhm, it is. People who choose suicide are still entitled to at least attempting to having their wishes and privacy respected. At the very least we should be asking the ethical questions before we start sifting through phone data like we are the NSA.
