The 1901 photo was taken by George Ritchey at Yerkes Observatory, using a 24 Inch (609mm) reflecting telescope

@northernbassist She worked in the photo lab, creating plates. They had an IBM 1130 computer system with a plotter attached, so the nerds could do their observing using a 40 inch refracting telescope ( largest in the world for a long time ). They would do their plotting and figure out star movements. She got ther name in a couple of books for her work. I think it gave her a sense of fulfillment to be doing something with her brain. It was a good environment for her. No aliens.

@northernbassist Real science alongside all those astrophysicists. Yerkes was one of two stops Einstein made when visiting the US. Shows the status of the facility at the time.
Yerkes was shut down for several years and is now being used as a scientific outreach site. They do some tours, so if you're in southeast Wisconsin, you can find Williams Bay southwest of Milwaukee.
