We don’t yet know the implications OR HOW VAST the chemical spread is. We only know as much as the EPA, Ohio’s Governing Agencies & Norfolk choose to release - as it is becoming increasingly evident there is a problem far more severe than they want to admit. Contamination has killed schools of fish in the nearby waters within a ten mile radius, so you can only imagine the ecological detriment this has caused.
#derailment Those waters flow into the Ohio River… AND those waters flow into the Mississippi River… … see where I’m going here? Keep in mind, residents were able to return to their homes within a week of the controlled release of vinyl chloride into the atmosphere - all the while, according to the environmental engineer associated with the detonation, the major impact will be felt for years to come as the chemical gets into the ground water
Let me give you that last line again, “the major impact will be felt for years to come as the chemical gets into the ground water and dissipates to near by wells used for drinking water.” - Kurt Rhodes (in case you’re wondering) It is also yet to be known what the byproduct of the total list of chemicals will be when they ultimately combine in contaminated areas. This is being discussed by chemists currently.
