Billionaire Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross tells furloughed workers they should be able to get a loan from a bank. Except that one needs verifiable income to get a loan, one needs to be able to make the payments, one shouldn't have to carry additional debt with interest because their employer refuses to pay them, and one who has govt clearance can actually lose said clearance, and thus their job, if they accrue too much debt.
Fuckin' vile cluelessness.
@ChippySuave And let's not forget that in addition to the 800,000 who are guaranteed to be paid their back wages once this is over (which while that sounds great does them NO good NOW) there are 1.2 million contractors who have NO MONEY coming in AND have NO PROMISE of money to come. So that is a total of 2 MILLION government workers with NO INCOME RIGHT NOW.
And, be honest, how many of you would trust a "guarantee" of payment from Trump? Would you really?
I sure wouldn't.
I went through this at the local board of education level around 1980. Worked what were called "O" days. You worked and got paid retroactively when agreements were signed off. It does degrade trust.
@MisterE @ChippySuave Did you actually get paid or no?
@AvaSpeaksUp @ChippySuave Yes, retroactively when everything got squared up. About a month and a half.
Chicago city politics can be cruel.
